LUND’S LANDING MARINA:
Hidden gem on the shores of Lake Sakakawea
Karen Huber, a member of Mountrail-Williams Electric Cooperative, has been a frequent visitor to a quaint family-owned
business, Lund’s Landing Marina, for many years.
Nestled along the shoreline of Lake Sakakawea, this small mom-and-pop establishment captured her heart over 25 years ago. Inspired by a suggestion in the February North Dakota Living, Karen is excited to shine a spotlight on this local destination.
Jim and Analene Torgerson purchased Lund’s Landing with a dream of building a full-service marina, ranging from bait, tackle, guide services, cabins, boating and pontoon rentals. To hedge the loss of business due to droughts in the 1980s and 1990s, they opened a restaurant on the premises in the mid-1980s. Surprisingly, the droughts that caused havoc on their initial dreams of a full-service marina worked in their favor, as locals rallied behind their roadside eatery, propelling the growth of their business.
Over the years of smart business practices, the Torgersons transformed Lund’s Landing into a thriving resort. Their dream of a thriving resort is now a reality, with the marina offering a diverse range of services, including kayak, canoe, boat and pontoon rentals alongside unique accommodations like teepee camping and cozy cabins.
What sets Lund’s Landing Marina apart is its commitment to showcasing the heart of North Dakota. The restaurant serves “juneberry pie, a local specialty recognized as one of the best pies in North Dakota.” The marina also features Lewis & Clark hiking trails and birding trails, adding to its charm as an outdoor oasis.
For the Torgersons, Lund’s Landing is more than just a business; it’s a labor of love that spans over three decades. Their dedication has transformed Lund’s Landing into a local treasure, celebrating the natural beauty and outdoor adventures that define North Dakota.
Lund’s Landing Marina stands as a testament to the resilience and entrepreneurial spirits of its owners. Jim and Analene have spent a lifetime creating a local treasure at White Tail Bay on Lake Sakakawea.
For those who have yet to experience its charm, Karen extends an invitation to visit Lund’s Landing Marina and witness firsthand this exceptional establishment.
